Elf Helpers by Sue Hillis Designs |
Why you ask? Maybe it's because of my great-grandfather. He died in 1899 at the age of 29. And, because of his cousin, Hattie. She is also my cousin; I guess she is a great-cousin. They wrote letters back in the 1890s. Fascinating reading if you can interpret the way they wrote. For instance, it was Dear cousin. Not "Dear Hattie". I enjoyed reading the handful of letters that I have recently discovered doing the genealogy of my family. Maybe it's because I used to write letters to my great-grandmother (other side of the family) when I was growing up - I kind of miss that. And, while I have no dreams of any future generations being that interested in what I write (maybe no one of this generation wants to read it either), I think I will still do it. Now, if I can just figure out how to use blogger.
I blog primarily so I can save the things I write and be able to show them to my kids when they're older and might be interested.
ReplyDeleteI got the idea from a scrap of paper my Grandmother kept in her desk. It was a list of times and events in one day of my Aunt Julie's life as a small child.
That one scrap of paper was a favorite tradition item on holiday get togethers. It never failed that someone would ask to have it read to us again so we could all laugh and marvel at what every other day growing up must have been like. And it was always said what a wonderful idea it was and it was too bad Grandmother hadn't done that every day.
Even if no one else looks at my blog, I think it'll be fun to look back through it in ten years and see what was important to me at the time and remember the little things that always manage to slip our minds over time.
For what it's worth, I think what you wrote right there is thoroughly interesting! And the cross stitch is cute as all get out!

Hello Kiri,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to blogging. It used to be so easy but now, with this new format, I understand how you need to figure it out, like me.
I think we have all lost the ability to write, somewhat, as in letters in the mail.
I know my Grandfather wrote beautifully, both in composition & handwriting. It was elegant & dignified. LOL, I'm showing my age.:)
Have fun, glad you've joined us.
Kay.
See Andrea, I can't even read correctly or address you by your name. LOL. apologies.

Welcome to Blogdom (is that a word?)
